Instagram Automation for Interior Designers: Enquiries to Calls
How interior designers in India can handle cost per sq ft questions on Instagram, share portfolios by DM and move serious homeowners to a call or site visit.
A before-and-after reel of a 2BHK in Pune or a modular kitchen walkthrough in Gurugram can pull in hundreds of comments. Most of them say some version of the same thing: “cost per sq ft?”, “3BHK full interior kitna lagega?”, “do you work in Hyderabad?”, “wardrobe ka rate?”. For an interior designer, those comments are the top of a sales funnel that ends in a site visit and a project worth lakhs.
But interiors are not a product you can price in a DM. Every home is different, and a wrong number sent too early either scares people off or sets an expectation you cannot meet. This playbook shows how interior designers can use Instagram automation to reply fast, qualify the enquiry, and move serious people to a call — without pretending a bot can quote a project.
Why the “per sq ft” question is a trap
Homeowners ask for a per-square-foot rate because it feels like the easiest comparison. You know the honest answer is “it depends”: on materials, on how much is civil work versus loose furniture, on whether they want a modular kitchen, false ceiling or just wardrobes. If you reply with one number, people treat it as a quote. If you don't reply, they go to the next studio.
The middle path is a DM that gives a range by scope, explains what changes the number, and asks two or three questions so your team can call with something real. Automation is perfect for that first message, because it is the same every time.
The comment-to-DM setup
Use comment-to-DM automation on your project reels. A simple pattern:
- Caption: “Comment COST for the budget breakdown of this 3BHK.”
- Keywords: cost, price, budget, rate, sq ft, kitna. Smart Matching catches these inside longer comments like “what was the total cost of this flat”.
- Public reply (rotate two or three): “Sent you the details in DM 📩”, “Check your inbox — shared the breakdown!”
- All posts fallback: one general automation for price-type comments on any post, while your best reels keep their own replies. The specific one wins, so nobody gets two DMs.
A sample DM sequence
Message one, sent automatically after the comment:
“Hi! Thanks for asking 😊 Every home is different, so we don't quote a flat per-sq-ft rate. As a rough guide, our modular kitchens start around ₹2.5 lakh and full-home interiors for a 2BHK usually start from ₹6 lakh, depending on materials. What are you planning?”
Buttons: Full home · Kitchen only · Wardrobes / one room
Message two, after they tap a button:
“Got it. Here are three similar projects we've done 👉 [Portfolio]. To share a realistic estimate, our designer will call you. Please share your phone number, your city and whether the flat is ready-to-move or under construction.”
The phone number goes into your Leads list next to their Instagram username. Your sales person opens the Leads list each morning and knows exactly who to call and what they asked for. Use your own starting figures — the numbers above are only an example of the format.

Reel ideas that naturally invite a keyword
- “₹X lakh vs ₹Y lakh kitchen — spot the difference. Comment KITCHEN for both specs.”
- “5 storage hacks for a small Mumbai 1BHK. Comment SPACE for the full list.”
- “Our material board for this villa. Comment MATERIAL for brand names.”
- “Site visit day 1 vs handover day. Comment PROCESS to see our timeline.”
The last two are useful because they attract people early in their decision, who are happy to get a helpful PDF or checklist and come back months later when possession is near. More caption ideas are in our reels comment automation guide.
Story replies and direct DMs
Many homeowners never comment; they reply to a story or send a DM straight away. Two settings cover them:
- Story reply automation on your “Slots open for Diwali handover” or “New project reveal” stories.
- A first-DM welcome with the same three buttons, set to send only on the first message so an ongoing conversation with a client is never interrupted.
Keep these conversations human
Interior projects run for months. The DM bot should only handle the very first touch.
- Actual quotes. No final number goes out without a site measurement and a designer's review.
- Existing clients. Questions about a running project — delays, a cracked laminate, a vendor issue — must reach your project manager directly.
- Payment and contract terms. Advance percentages, milestones, GST on the invoice: always a person, always in writing.
- Complaints in comments. If someone posts an unhappy comment, reply yourself. Don't let a keyword like “cost” trigger a cheerful sales DM to an angry client.
Because the shared inbox shows the comment, the public reply and the DM in one thread, your designer can see what the automation already said before picking up the chat.
Measuring what works
Track Your Links shows how many people opened your portfolio link from the DM, and the Analytics dashboard shows message activity across your automations. Over a few weeks you will see which kind of reel — kitchens, budget breakdowns, before-and-after — brings in people who actually share a number. Make more of those.
