Instagram keyword trigger automation that actually fires
Set trigger words on any post, reel or story and let JaldiDM reply with a DM automatically. Multiple keywords per automation. Free 7-day trial, from ₹399/month.
An Instagram keyword trigger is the word someone types to start an automation. They comment LINK on your reel, or send PRICE in a DM, and the automation that owns that word replies instantly. It is the simplest piece of Instagram automation to set up and the one that does most of the work — which is why getting your keywords right matters more than any other setting.
Where keyword triggers work
- Comments on feed posts and Reels — the classic comment-to-DM play.
- Direct messages — someone types a word and gets the matching answer without waiting for you.
- Story replies — “reply GUIDE to this story” turns a story into a lead capture.
How to choose trigger words that actually fire
Most “my automation isn't working” problems are really keyword problems. Four rules cover almost all of it:
- Short enough to type on a phone. One word beats three. GUIDE beats SEND ME THE GUIDE, which people will mistype.
- Distinctive, not conversational. Avoid words that show up in ordinary comments. A trigger like NICE or YES will fire on people who were just being friendly.
- Add the variants people really use. Plurals, common typos, and the Hinglish word if that is how your audience writes. Case does not matter — JaldiDM matches case-insensitively, so LINK and link are the same trigger.
- Say it in the caption and out loud. If it is a reel, say the keyword in the video too. People act on what they hear.
One keyword or several?
Use several per automation, but keep them pointing at the same intent. PRICE, PRICING and COST all mean “tell me what it costs”, so they belong together. What you should not do is attach unrelated words to one automation — if PRICE and GUIDE send the same DM, half your leads get the wrong thing.
Where two automations could both match a comment, JaldiDM runs the most recently created one, so a new campaign takes precedence over an old evergreen automation rather than being silently ignored.
Why a keyword trigger stops working
Almost always one of these, in rough order of likelihood:
- The automation is not live. Drafts do not fire. Check the status toggle first.
- The Instagram connection expired. Access tokens expire; reconnect the account and it resumes.
- The keyword did not match. Look at the actual comment — extra emoji or a different spelling is the usual culprit.
- The automation is attached to a different post. Easy to miss when you have several running.
- The commenter already got it. Repeat comments from the same person do not re-trigger by default.
Each automation shows its recent runs, so you can see whether the comment reached us at all — which separates “the trigger did not match” from “the message failed to send” without guesswork.
Keyword ideas that tend to work
- Lead magnets: GUIDE, EBOOK, CHECKLIST, TEMPLATE
- Sales: PRICE, BUY, ORDER, SHOP
- Bookings: BOOK, SLOT, DEMO, CALL
- Info: INFO, DETAILS, LINK
Pick one per campaign. A post asking people to comment three different words converts worse than a post asking for one.
Setting triggers up in JaldiDM
Add keywords in the automation builder, choose whether they apply to comments, DMs or story replies, and write the reply. You can pair a keyword with a public comment reply plus a private DM, so other people see you responding while the actual link goes to the inbox. It runs on the official Meta API and starts at ₹399/month, with a 7-day free trial and no card required.

Frequently asked questions
What is a keyword trigger on Instagram?
A keyword trigger is the word someone has to comment (or send you in a DM) for an automation to run. Comment "LINK" and the automation that owns that keyword fires and sends the DM you configured.
Can one automation have several trigger keywords?
Yes. Add every spelling people actually use — LINK, link, Link, plus common typos and the Hindi or Hinglish word if your audience uses one. JaldiDM matches case-insensitively, so you only need genuinely different words, not capitalisation variants.
Why is my Instagram keyword trigger not working?
The usual causes are: the automation is not set live, the account was disconnected and needs reauthorising, the keyword does not match what people actually typed, or the post is not the one attached to the automation. JaldiDM shows each automation's recent runs so you can see whether the comment arrived at all.
What are the best trigger keywords to use?
Short, unambiguous, and easy to type on a phone — LINK, PRICE, GUIDE, INFO. Avoid words that appear in ordinary conversation, or your automation will fire on comments that were never meant to trigger it.
Do keyword triggers work on Reels and Stories?
Yes. Comment keywords work on feed posts and Reels; story replies can trigger a DM too, which is useful for "reply GUIDE to this story" campaigns.
